古茶阁 (Ancient Tea Pavilion)

古茶阁 (The Ancient Tea House) is a small, family-run tea house located in the Fujian region of China. Here, some of the world’s finest teas are savored, as they have been for centuries.

Diving Into a New World
Client: 古茶阁 (Ancient Tea Pavilion)
Year: 2025
This project was a deep dive into ancient tea house branding — a visual identity packed with history but shouting for today. Designing the look for 古茶阁 (Gǔ Chá Gé - Ancient Tea Pavilion) meant jumping headfirst into unfamiliar territory. I didn’t just craft a logo; I lived the rituals, soaked up the stories, and tasted the culture like it was my own.
More Than a Graphic Mark
Ancient tea house branding isn’t just about a symbol. It demands storytelling that feels sharp, fresh, and rooted in tradition. Translating layers of centuries-old culture into something bold and simple? That’s the real challenge. Three bowls: not just shapes but cosmic balance incarnate — heaven, earth, and human. It’s harmony times three, connection times three. Tea pouring here is a holy act, an invitation that stretches beyond time.

Stacking these bowls vertically? It echoes those old-school tea house signs dangling down alleyways. The Chinese idea of emptiness and fullness (虚实, xū shí) isn’t hollow space; it’s meaningful silence. As an outsider, I wrestled to catch this feeling, but it’s the heartbeat of the design.

Right in the center, a fiery red Zhuànshū (篆书) seal: 品茗 (pǐn míng), “to savor tea.” Not decoration — this is the brand’s pulse. Tea drinking here is slow, intentional meditation — no rush allowed. The seal pops, balancing the calm green and bringing warmth that sticks.
A Sensory Journey Through Time and Space
古茶阁 (Ancient Tea Pavilion) characters bridge ancient and now with delicate, fresh strokes inspired by Kai (楷书) but lightened for today. Writing vertically? More than style — a deep cultural bow. Every stroke dances with the bowls, speaking the same quiet language.

Colors that speak softly: tea green for calm nature, ivory for porcelain and ceremony light. Then a jolt of red seals tradition and energy right into the heart.

The logo breathes thanks to liú bái (留白), that invisible space where form gets meaning. No stiff symmetry here — just smooth flow. It’s a minimalist vibe fluent in East and West, culture and now.

This is no mere logo. It’s a story told out loud — balance, authenticity, shared moments. Ready to shine on sleek packaging, digital spaces, or handcrafted surfaces. Wherever it lives, 古茶阁 (Ancient Tea Pavilion) delivers ritual, calm, and timeless tradition. That’s ancient tea house branding, told with clarity and soul.
